Wyoming Residents: Oppose SB 63This action is ONLY for residents of Wyoming Update: This bill went through a number of changes after being introduced and thanks to your action, the proposed bill was updated to remove cats from the definition of predator. Unfortunately, the bill was tabled for this legislative session, so it was not voted on. As long as cats remain classified as predators, they lack certain protections under cruelty law. We will continue to monitor this legislation and work to ensure cats are removed from the definition of predator. Thank you for your action and support! Original: Things could get a lot worse for cats in Wyoming. I am truly disturbed by a bill that will soon be voted on in your state. Senate Bill 63 would prohibit ownership of “predators,” and sadly, stray cats are legally defined as a “predator” in Wyoming, allowing them to be killed without repercussion. Because of this “predator” classification, the new bill banning predator ownership would make it illegal for shelters to adopt out any cats who were brought in as strays. Not only is this bill unspeakably cruel, it will also place an incredible drain on shelter resources, forcing them to house and then “euthanize” any stray cats. This would place an emotional burden on the shelter staff who can no longer shelter cats, only kill them. This bill is just one more example of why cats shouldn't be labeled as "predators" in the first place. Please urge your representative to oppose SB 63. Consider taking action on other issues.
