New York residents: Help Expand TNR Funding

NY_AB2778_SB1081.jpgThis action is ONLY for residents of New York

Update:

Thanks to the support of cat advocates like you, the TNR Funding Bill, SB 1081, has passed the Senate Finance Committee—now it needs to be brought to a vote in the Senate. Outdoor cats have a critical need for spay and neuter services, but currently, New York’s spay/neuter fund is not authorized to support TNR projects. The crucial TNR Funding Bill must be put to a vote.

Please call Majority Leader, Senator John J. Flanagan, and respectfully ask that SB 1081 be brought to a vote: 518-455-2071.

To increase the likelihood that the TNR Funding Bill will be voted on, keep your call short, polite, and focused on these points:

  • Please bring SB 1081 to a vote.
  • When impounded in shelters, community cats are nearly always euthanized, at great cost to taxpayers.
  • SB 1081 would save the lives of community cats by managing the population through Trap-Neuter-Return, a humane program that would save taxpayer dollars.

Original:

A pair of bills, AB 2778 and SB 1081, would expand the reach of the state spay and neuter fund to include Trap-Neuter Return (TNR) programs. Outdoor cats have a critical need for spay and neuter services, but currently, New York’s spay and neuter fund is not authorized to support TNR projects. Studies show that only a small percentage of community cats are sterilized compared to pet cats, so expanding the reach of the spay and neuter fund will increase its impact without increasing cost.
AB 2778 has already passed the New York Assembly.

Contact your Senator today and ask them to urge the Senate Finance Committee to put the TNR Funding Bill to a vote.
