Protect Trap-Neuter-Return in Washington, DC

For DC Residents Only:

DC_TNR-082015.jpg UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who commented and submitted testimony on Washington D.C.’s District Department of Energy and the Environment’s (DOEE) draft Wildlife Action Plan. The comment period is now closed. The DOEE will release their final plan in the coming weeks, and we will continue to monitor progress and keep you updated.

Original: If you submitted comments about Washington D.C.’s District Department of Energy and Environment’s “Wildlife Action Plan” for 2015, thank you. Now, the D.C. Council Committee on Transportation and the Environment is holding a public roundtable on Friday, September 18 to consider the plan, and is seeking both live and written testimony. All testimony will become part of the official record. Submit your testimony and tell the D.C. Council that you support TNR and don’t want to live, visit, or do business in a city where cats are rounded up and killed.

The Wildlife Action Plan calls for D.C. to “revisit” its policy on TNR. D.C. has sanctioned TNR programs for years, but this would change all of that. The plan aims to place all community cats in shelters, where they will be killed because they are unadoptable. This catching and killing cats is not only cruel, it’s ineffective, wastes taxpayers dollars, and will not save wildlife. TNR is the only humane and effective approach to community cats.

Your input is crucial to protect TNR in D.C.  Send in your written testimony below. You should also ask to testify in at the public roundtable by contacting Committee staff assistant Aukima Benjamin at 202-724-8062 or abenjamin@dccouncil.us.
