Louisiana Residents: Support a bill for more access to shelter information

This action is ONLY for residents of Louisiana

ActionCenter_LA_201605-ShelterTransparency.jpgUPDATE: Good news! Thanks to everyone who took action, the Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill (SB 216) has passed the Louisiana House of Representatives. It now moves on to be signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House, and then it will be sent to the Governor to sign into law. We will keep you posted on the Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill’s progress, and if further action needs to be taken.

Original Issue: Thanks to everyone who took action, the Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill (SB 216) has been reported favorably out of the House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development! It will now go on to the Louisiana House of Representatives, which will put it to a final vote.

This bill would encourage shelters to register with the Louisiana Animal Welfare Commission and provide important shelter information like animal intake numbers and outcomes to the public. Although the bill would be more effective if it was mandatory, voluntary reporting is a step in the right direction and encourages Louisiana shelters to be more open.

Take action today and ask your House representatives to pass the Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill, SB 216.
