New York Residents: Support Declawing Ban

This action is ONLY for residents of New York

ActionCenter_NY_DeclawBan2016.jpgUPDATE: We are sorry to say that New York’s declaw ban bill was stalled and did not make it through the legislative session. Thank you to everyone who took action and tried to get this groundbreaking legislation passed.

Alley Cat Allies hopes new legislation to combat the inhumane practice of declawing cats will rise again in New York. We will continue to watch for developments and keep you updated on any progress or if the bill is reintroduced.

Original Issue: New York could lead the way in protecting cats as the first state to ban declawing.  The New York legislature is considering two bills, A.1297 and S.5084, that would prohibit declawing in the state except in cases of medical necessity.

People who aren’t informed about declawing use it to deter scratching, but it’s not a nail trim. It is a surgical amputation of the last joints of cats’ toes. The American Veterinary Medical Association says that declawing should only be done as a last resort. Otherwise, it is an inhumane and needless surgery that causes cats pain and stress.

New York residents, you have the power to end this cruel practice. Ask your legislators to pass the bills and ban declawing in New York.

We apologize, but the action alert you are attempting to access is no longer active.
