Bayside State Prison Still Starving Cats

bayside prison

Last year, you helped us obtain permission to start a Trap-Neuter-Return program at Bayside State Prison. But now, the cats are in danger once again. The prison’s administration has imposed a feeding ban and the cats who have been living on the grounds for over 10 years are starving. We are working with several groups in New Jersey, and we’ve contacted the prison’s administration and the Department of Corrections’ commissioner to urge them to lift the ban and implement best practices, including feeding stations, that are essential to a successful TNR program. We will not rest until the cats at Bayside State Prison are fed and the TNR program is back in place and secure. Many other prisons have cats living on their grounds and have formal TNR programs for them. Read more about this developing story.

National Feral Cat Day® 2014 a Huge Success…Because of You!

NFCD Icon The theme of this year’s National Feral Cat Day® was “TNR: From the Alley…to Main Street”, and the incredible turnout is proof that community cats and TNR are definitely mainstream. Thanks to you, this year’s National Feral Cat Day® was a huge success! There were a total of 521 registered events around the world, with an average of 50 cats directly helped at each event. Your support makes National Feral Cat Day® bigger and better every year. After the big day on October 16, we asked event holders to share their photos and stories, and we are excited to share some with you. See what people across the country did this year for National Feral Cat Day®.

Alley Cat Allies & Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center Form New Partnership to Save Cats

Colony of eartipped cats Alley Cat Allies has teamed up with Montgomery County Animal Services (MCASAC) and Montgomery County Partners for Animal Well-Being (MCPAW) in Maryland to develop a series of informative workshops that will help save cats’ lives. The workshops will empower residents to become volunteers, advise on how they can help cats in their own backyard, and provide an opportunity for residents with questions to get the information they need. Montgomery County residents are encouraged to participate in the workshops held the second Thursday of every month, starting Nov. 13. In supporting local TNR efforts, MCASAC joins the hundreds of shelters dedicated to effectively and humanely addressing their communities’ needs.
