April Edition
Thanks to the support of loyal donors like you, we’ve been very busy this month protecting cats around the country. Here are just a few of our current projects and successes:
Person of Interest Identified in Indiana Cruelty Case
|
Late
last month, in a horrific incident of animal cruelty, 21 cats and other animals
were found dead and stacked in an alley in South Bend, Ind. A pet cat named
Tiger—pictured here sleeping in his home—had been missing for months, and his
owner identified him with the other animals. Thanks to a generous donor, we’ve doubled our reward—now totaling $1,500—for information leading to an arrest. And thanks to multiple tips from citizens, police have identified
a person of interest. Read more »

Joining Forces for Larry
|
Alley
Cat Allies has teamed up with national and Nebraska groups to call for an
investigation into the case of a Bloomfield, Neb. police officer who shot and
killed Larry, a pet cat, in January. Alley Cat Allies, Best Friends Animal
Society, Nebraska Rescue Council, and The Cat House co-signed letters to the Knox
County Attorney General, Nebraska Attorney General, and the state patrol.
Reports of this cruel act created a frenzy on social media, and more than
30,000 people signed our online petition demanding justice for Larry. Find out more about our call for justice »

TNR Success at New Jersey Prison
|
Alley
Cat Allies recently joined local groups in New Jersey to carry out
Trap-Neuter-Return at Bayside State Prison. Late last year, we helped save a
colony of cats living at the prison and helped protect its long-standing TNR
program. On March 12, low-risk inmates and guards humanely trapped the cats,
and Alley Cat Allies staff brought them to a mobile clinic where they were
neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped before being returned to their outdoor
homes. Learn more about this TNR success story »

Katherine Heigl Shows Her Support for Alley Cat Allies
|
Emmy Award-winning actress Katherine Heigl, of Grey's Anatomy fame, posted about Alley Cat Allies on her Twitter and Facebook pages this week! “A big shout out to my friends at Alley Cat Allies for all they do for community cats,” she wrote. “All cats deserve love.” We agree, of course, and we’re thrilled to have Heigl as a friend and fellow advocate. Heigl has always loved animals and started a foundation in 2008 with her mother that works to save animals in shelters. The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation also gave us a shout out! Get in on the love fest. Like and comment on Heigl’s Facebook post »
