Change Comes to Yonkers

Last April, the tragic story of at least 25 cats found dead in a vacant lot in Yonkers, New York shocked the community and made headlines across the country. Fortunately, after an investigation by the SPCA of Westchester, and the support of advocates like you, a suspect has been charged in the cruelty case. Now, good news is finally coming to Westchester County, NY. Alley Cat Allies is implementing humane education programs and lifesaving initiatives that will protect the cats in Yonkers and address their needs. Targeted Trap-Neuter-Return is up and running. We recently provided New Rochelle Humane Society with a $5,000 grant which residents can use for neutering community cats in the county. We are also hosting a TNR workshop at New Rochelle Humane Society on January 15 at 6:30PM to teach people how to help cats.

Learn how Yonkers has bounced back to become advocates for cats.

Show Your Support for Shelter Cats with a Cat ID Wristband

Millions of cats are taken to shelters every year, and 7 out of 10 of those cats are killed. We are working hard every day to change the shelter system to save cats’ lives, but we need your help! Donate $10 to Alley Cat Allies today, and we’ll send you a special Cat ID wristband, similar to the disposable collars given to cats when they enter the shelter. Wear this wristband as a reminder of the cats’ in our nation’s shelters, and a bold statement that you believe every single cat’s life is valuable and worth saving.

Show your community that you stand with cats—donate today for your Cat ID wristband.

Update: Bayside State Prison Cats

bayside prison

Thanks to your advocacy and vocal support, we are now in discussions with Bayside State Prison officials and have been on the prison grounds to assess the condition of the cats. The cats who we have been able to see appear to be in good shape. We are cautiously optimistic about reaching an agreement with prison officials. The cats are being fed on an interim basis as we work with prison officials to implement an ongoing program that will meet the cats’ needs.

We will keep you updated as our work with the prison progresses.
