National Feral Cat Day® 2015 Was Our Biggest Yet!

On October 16, compassionate people in all 50 states and around the world joined the Cat Revolution. National Feral Cat Day has grown so much since we created it in 2001. This year, we far surpassed our goal with over 840 activities registered to help protect and improve the lives of cats. This was our biggest and best National Feral Cat Day yet! Thank you to everyone who got involved in an activity—every bit helps in making a difference for cats. Because of everyone’s efforts, we reached more people and saved more cats’ lives than ever this year. Read more about the success of National Feral Cat Day 2015.

Veterinary Board Moves to Revoke Kristen Lindsey’s License

eNews_Vet-Texas-Cruelty.jpg On October 1, the Texas Board of Veterinary Examiners moved to revoke the license of Kristen Lindsey, a veterinarian who posted a picture of herself on Facebook holding a cat by an arrow through the cat’s head and bragging about the kill. Alley Cat Allies applauds the Veterinary Board’s action, but there is still more to be done. In August, Alley Cat Allies’ Staff Attorney Rebekah DeHaven attended the Board’s meeting about the case and gave a statement. Lindsey is appealing the decision, and we will keep you updated as the case moves forward. Read more about the Veterinary Board’s decision.

Alley Cat Allies Hosts Webinar for Veterinary Students

eNews_VetSchoolWebinar125.jpg On October 14, we hosted a special webinar for the veterinary students of St. George’s University in Grenada. Veterinary students and St. George’s Trap-Neuter-Return group, the Feral Cat Project, were in attendance. Our webinar helped introduce students and new Feral Cat Project members to the process of TNR, particularly its medical aspect. This was an excellent opportunity to speak directly to future veterinarians about TNR and encourage them to get involved. Learn more about the St. George’s University webinar.

A Victory for Cats and Caregivers in Sparks, Nevada

In August, we asked Sparks, Nevada residents to take action against a bad ordinance that would have penalized caretakers for providing food and shelter to community cats. Thanks to their efforts, we’re happy to report that the Sparks City Council has voted against the ordinance. With the support of the Nevada Humane Society, Washoe County Regional Animal Services, local activists, and supportive Sparks council members, Sparks’ community cat caregivers can continue providing lifesaving services like Trap-Neuter-Return. Learn more about the victory in Sparks.
