Dear Happy (almost) Earth Day! Tomorrow, April 22, marks the 51st annual celebration of the planet that sustains us, and the incredible array of diverse life upon it. The bell-bottoms and flower power of 1970 may be things of the past, but the message of Earth Day is evergreen. We have only one Earth, it has finite resources, and it is our shared responsibility to protect it as best we can. In Alley Cat Allies’ 31 years in action, we have always prioritized compassion for ALL animals. All our work protecting cats is for naught without a healthy planet and sufficient natural resources. We are also fighting for a permanent end to laws and policies that harm one species in the misguided hope that doing so might help the “conservation” of another species. This approach is cruel, runs counter to basic understanding of cat population dynamics, and is contrary to the humane values of our society. For the cats,
