January Edition
Thanks to the support of loyal donors like you, we've been very busy this month protecting cats around the country. Here are just a few of our current projects and successes:
Happy New Year from Alley Cat Allies
|
Thanks to your support, we were able to help more cats than ever in 2012. We helped save cats’ lives and institute policies to protect them from North Carolina to Texas, and from New Jersey to Alabama. We met our opponents head on and responded to threats to cats in the media. We had our biggest National Feral Cat Day® yet, with more than 470 events. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we launched our rapid response fund to help cats and caregivers in emergency conditions. And we kicked off the Changing Communities for Cats campaign to reform our nation’s pound and shelter system. From all of us at Alley Cat Allies, thank you for a great year for the cats!

Attend our TNR Webinar TONIGHT
|
Since we introduced our “Helping Cats in Your Community” webinar last summer, hundreds of people have learned the basics of TNR through these online sessions. Veterinarians, technicians, caregivers and animal control officers have all taken advantage of this free resource to learn how to care for feral cats humanely—and have raved about the experience! Tonight at 7:30 p.m. marks the first webinar of the new year. Sign up now to attend and see what everyone’s talking about. We’ll be hosting one on the second Wednesday of every month, so if you can’t make it tonight, mark your calendars for the next one!

Celebrating with Spay Days in Fort Worth
|
Last month, we told you about a big victory for the cats of Fort Worth, Texas: After many months of advocating and working with local stakeholders, the city council finally backed off of a harmful proposed ordinance and instead passed a law supporting TNR. To celebrate this big win, Alley Cat Allies partnered with the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection this month to hold two spay days to promote and encourage TNR. The first event took place on January 3 and made great progress toward our goal of neutering 150 cats this month.

Recruit Your Friends to Help Cats
|
Our Feral Friends Network is a critical lifeline for cats. These individuals and organizations help others care for cats at the local level in communities all around the country. To expand this lifesaving network, we’re introducing our new Feral Friends Network Incentive Program. Current Feral Friends who refer new members will be entered into a monthly drawing to win prizes, including a $100 gift card from selected retailers. So if you’re already a Feral Friends Network member, start recruiting! And if you are not yet a member, apply today.

Adoptable Cats: A Black Cat Affair
|
Meet three of our black cat beauties! Jossie is a 7-month-old kitten who has a posh exterior, but is not too refined for playtime with her favorite furry confidante, Addie. Though shy at first, after a good belly rub, Jossie is sure to be your friend for life. Four-month-old Addie is a little gal who is as outgoing and rambunctious as they come. When she’s not engaged in playtime with her best friend Jossie or seen about town with her favorite accessory—her stuffed catnip banana—Addie can be found curled up on your lap. And last but not least, Lotus is a warm and affectionate three-year-old whose prestige comes from her loving nature. You’ll adore petting her always-in-style, striking black fur, and this beautiful kitty will never let your lap grow cold. Though she had a rough start in life and needs a little extra TLC since she is FIV+, you won’t find a more charming and fabulous furry friend. It’s a New Year, will you give a new home to one of our Black Beauties today?
