Dear Friend,
Big news: We just returned from delivering 55,677 signed petitions directly to the headquarters of the Smithsonian Institution demanding it stop lending its name to junk science that vilifies cats.
In February, a report funded in part by the Smithsonian was released that blamed cats for species decline—and it was immediately picked up by dozens of media outlets that reported on its findings without questioning its statistical methods.
So today we also shared with the Smithsonian a report from a respected, independent statistician who found major flaws in the research—so much so that he told Alley Cat Allies, "If a student turned something like this in for a freshman statistics class, he would have failed the assignment."
Today wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the tens of thousands of you who stood with us and signed your names to the petition, coming together and spreading the word to defend cats from junk science that gets cats killed.
We face a continuing uphill battle to ensure that decision makers hear our message. We depend on grassroots supporters like you to keep up the fights for cats—their lives depend on it.
We've set an aggressive goal of $54,633 to help us continue our important work to turn the tide and make sure more communities stop the killing in favor of humane, pro-cat policies. The cats are counting on you—anything you can give today will make a difference.
Click here to give $5 or more today and help Alley Cat Allies fight to make communities all across the country safe for cats.
With you by our side, I know we can do it.
For the cats,
Becky Robinson
