Westwego Residents: Protect Cats in Your Community

This action is ONLY for residents of Westwego, Louisiana

Westwego’s Mayor and City Council are considering an ordinance that requires a burdensome permit in order to carry out Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), the only humane and effective approach to community cats.

The ordinance also treats community cat caregivers like the owners of the cats when they are not, subjecting them to the legal pressures of ownership.

To protect cats and caregivers, please speak out below and ask your decisionmakers to remove these barriers to TNR from the proposed ordinance. Tell them that TNR is the only approach that works. AA_Westwego_344.png

Please Oppose Restrictions on Caring for Cats

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a resident of Westwego, I thank you for not approving a feeding ban for outdoor cats, which would have been a cruel and ineffective measure. However, the proposed ordinance would still place unnecessary restrictions on the people who are caring for cats and benefiting our community.

I want to know that our community's cats will be safe and that we have effective options like TNR that aren't restricted by our laws. TNR is the only humane and collaborative way to address community concerns so cats and people can coexist.

I ask you to please oppose this ordinance as it stands and protect Westwego's cats and their caregivers.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
